A biometric ID scheme has been set up in Mansfield, UK, by the Mansfield Association of Licensed Venues (MALV) in the hope of getting locals to register their fingerprints with the ‘Know ID’ scheme. The overall objective being to crack down on underage drinking within the area. Biometric scanners have already been installed at nine premises in the area.
Biometrics are also being used to identify criminals across 22 states in India. The Automated Finger Print Identification System (AFIS) has been introduced under the CCTNS project for the purpose of identifying criminals. Police stations will have fingerprint readers installed to carry out the identification process.
Both examples highlight how biometrics continue to be used in a number of applications for the secure identification of people.
